MEET THE INNOVATOR AND HIS GENIUS IDEA

In 2014 I found himself looking for a job after 30 plus years of work and several career path changes.  I was a professional in my field and engaged in all the processes to find a new job only to realise  that the recruitment process is fractured.  I have been an employee and an employer, participated in many recruiting processes while working in government, mining, Oil & Gas, tourism sectors.

The amount of time I have invested looking for opportunities, researching companies, re-writing my resume so a recruiter or computer will pick me is significant, populating some organisations random applicant tracking system (ATS) to apply for a position only to never hear anything underpins general confusion and suspicion.  After reading a lot of online guidance and advice, often from someone who thinks that its OK to phone up a company employee and catch up for a coffee, left me surprised and feeling that most of the time its not worth my effort,  recruiter have no interest, no contact and I had to rely on my networks. I have had some initial phone interviews, generally after not including my age or address, with ridiculous  question and comments from HR professionals that verified and validated my assumption that recruiters are at times just  ‘winging it’.

This is on the back of my last 20 years in training and skilling people to gain employment or to remain current in a job.  What I found challenging was being asked dumb question by recruiters who demonstrated over and over that they had not read my resume and often did not have a competent understanding of the skills required for the position being recruited  and subsequently couldn’t match the skills I had to the job they advertised.

It was very interested to realise that I’m not the only person challenged by a system with process that have not changed for decades.  I have not had one person tell me the recruiting system is excellent, has no capacity for improvement and I smile when talking with business leaders who pull a very contorted face at the mere mention of HR, skills shortages, future skills, challenges, staff retention and the Future world of work.


So, what would you do, maybe design and build a system to pivot the current recruitment process by recognising and valuing the skills and experience of individuals and have a  system inform individuals of position offerings based to the skills and experience they have.  JobDNA.me is simple in concept and difficult in design.
